Walking Madrid

When to walk

SpringMarch through May brings warm days and outdoor terraza season. The city blooms — Retiro Park fills with picnickers and the light lasts until 9pm.

SummerHot. Locals flee to the coast, but the city rewards those who stay — fewer crowds, late sunsets, and rooftop bars that come alive after midnight.

AutumnSeptember and October are arguably the best months. The heat breaks, the chestnuts roast on Gran Vía, and the city finds its rhythm again.

WinterCold but clear. Christmas lights on Gran Vía are worth the trip alone. Fewer tourists, warmer tapas bars, and the Prado practically to yourself.
